Dance Do

I've done several dance hair styles before but this one has a bit of a different twist on it so I thought I would post just in case any of you have little dancers out there and are stumped on hairstyle ideas.  Make sure you begin this style with wet hair for better hold.
I started by sectioning out the bang area on the front of head and creating a Dutch Braid.  (A Dutch Braid is basically a French Braid but you have your plates go underneath instead of over the top.)
I did not have the Dutch Braid go all the way down to the ear but rather just to the end of the bang line and then I just finished plating the hair I had gathered into a Regular 3-Strand Braid.
I secured that braid at the end with an elastic and then set it aside for a minute.
Pull the remaining hair tightly back into a ponytail.  You can make the ponytail high or low depending on the look you are going for.  We've place this one right over the crown of the head.
Now go ahead and create a Barrel Roll from the hair used in your ponytail.  You can find a video tutorial for the Barrel Roll here.
Once your Barrel Roll is completed you can bring your original braid down around the back of the bun and tuck the ends underneath.  Use bobby pins to secure it into place and then give it a good spray with hairspray to ensure hold throughout the dance performance.  At this point you can spray the hairstyle with craft spray glitter as well if you want that sparkly look.  We usually do this but did not have any glitter on hand at this time.  Add some fun hair accessories if you like as well.
This hairstyle holds very tightly and is perfect for keeping that hair out of the face while your princess is dancing!

Dance Revue Hair

My princess had her final dance revue a little while ago and she needed to have her hair pulled up tightly.  This is what we came up with.
I started by dividing out a 1.5 inch section of hair the whole way around the head.  I pull the rest of the hair inside the part into a tight ponytail.  I then divided my hair that I sectioned out into 7 squares - one in the front middle and 4 more on each side.

I pulled each square into an elastic.  I then divided the hair from each elastic into two equal pieces and combined one piece from each adjacent elastic into it's own elastic about 2 inches from the first one.  Do this the entire way around the head to create a bit of a "net" look.  After I had my second row of elastics I added all the remaining hair into my center ponytail and secured it with a new elastic.
I then grabbed a bun mold and created the center bun.
I separated the excess hair that was left over into two pieces and created Corkscrews out of each.  I wrapped the Corkscrews around the base of the bun and then secured them in place with some bobby pins.
I also sprayed her hair with glitter spray for her performance.
It was solid as a rock for the whole revue and that's exactly what we wanted!  :)

Flashback Friday: Getting Glamorous

Here we go again with the overnight curlers...  but they're so fun!
My princess had some seriously thick hair as a little girl so we ended up using a couple different kinds of curlers.
She thought we should just keep this as the hairstyle because it looked so glamorous!  :)
She had beautiful ringlet curls the next day for her dance performance.
In fact, she had beautiful curls for the next few days!  (Gotta love the curling power of those sponge curlers!)

Princess Dreads

My princess had dance picture scheduled right after school.  It was a P.E. day for her at school and I knew I would only have enough time to through her costume on and get to the studio.  This left me the problem of figuring out how to do her hair and still have it look good by the end of school.  I decided to do some dread lock braids in her hair because I could easily have her unplate them in the car as we drove to the studio and then I could run a quick brush through it and be done!  Problem solved!
I started off creating some small pulled ponies at the top to help keep the hair out of her eyes.
There were two sections of these ponies and I made sure that they were pulled in separate directions for a nice look.
From that point I started sectioning out pieces of hair with the rat-tailed comb and creating 3-Strand Braids.  I braided each section as low as I could and then secured it at the bottom with an elastic.
I did this all the way around the head and ended up with 28 individual braids.  (Now this did take some time so make sure you plan accordingly.)
The kids at school thought her hair was so neat and kept wanting to play with it.  I changed her into her costume at school and then hopped in the car to head out.  My princess had half of the braids unplated by the time we got there and I quickly helped unplate the rest.
We ran a quick brush through it - this helped loosen up the waves - and she even had 5 minutes to spare!  :)
Her pictures turned out great and she was even able to wear it like that the following day.

Flashback Friday: Low on Time?

This is one of the easiest hairstyle you'll find on here - which is nice when you are low on time!
Simply grab your favorite hair clip and comb one side of hair, just above the ear, up toward the center of the head.  Secure it in place with the hair clip and you're finished.
The rest of the hair can be straight or curly and it looks beautiful either way.

Glitter Glam

My princess has an annual Winterfest dance performance and it's usually a fun time for the girls to wear their costumes and get fancy.
My daughter loves having glitter in her hair so we planned on it with this hairstyle.
We started with a small Pull-Through at the front which we do quite often because it's quick and easy and it adds a little more flair.
Next we pulled up half of the hair, from ear to ear, into a ponytail.  Slide a bun mold over your ponytail.  (I just noticed that Walmart is now carrying bun molds in their hair supply isle.)
Spread the ponytail evenly over the bun mold and then secure it with an elastic around the mold.  Comb the excess hair from the bun down to the back with the remaining hair.
Go ahead and curl all of the hair that is still down.  We've curled hers with a 1-inch flat iron because it creates nice loose curls.
Our final step was to spray in some glitter.  You can find spray glitter in the can in the craft section at most stores.  (This picture doesn't do it justice but it looks so pretty in the hair!)

The "Quad"

The "Quad" has always been a ski lift at Brighton to me so it's strange to have a hairstyle with the same name. Part your hair however you like and pull each section up into a ponytail.

Now you're going to divide the ponytail into 4 equal parts instead of 3 parts. Here's where it gets confusing so I'm just going to say to watch any tutorials on YouTube. You might notice a little glitter in her hair and it's simple spray glitter found in the craft section at Wal-Mart. It hardly shows up in the picture but it's the greatest stuff and it washes out with regular shampoo.
She looked great for her dance performance and she was VERY sparkly!
