Triple Braid Bun

Here's another fun Pinterest one that has been floating around.  It's really simple and has a beautiful look:
I have to admit that I LOVE this with the blonde highlights in this girl's hair!
Start the style by sectioning the hair out into 3 horizontal sections and secure each section with an elastic.  *You can choose to leave some hair out like in the example which you can curl for a more formal look.
Now take each of your three ponytails and create a 3-Strand Braid out of them - securing each of your braids with an elastic at the bottom. Starting with your top braid, wrap it around it's elastic so that you form a bun and then secure the ends of your braid with bobby pins by tucking them underneath he bun.
The length of your princess's hair will determine the size of your bun.  If she has shorter hair, you can keep your braids looser  to give the bun a more full look.  Add a flower to the side as an accent if you like and the hairstyle is complete!

Royal Crown

Here's a style that's fun for any day.  You will want to make sure that you have a bun mold or rolled sock handy to help create your bun.
Begin by pulling all of the hair back into a ponytail.  You can position your ponytail high or low on the back of the head.  It would be really cute up high if you were using it as an actual crown.  Now you have a choice of breaking up your ponytail at this point and creating several small braids out of it, or moving on like we did.
We went ahead and pulled our un-braided ponytail through the bun mold and the created our smaller braids at this point.  Either way will work.  (Tip:  You only need to plait your braids down far enough to cover your mold - the rest of the hair can be left loose.)
Create as many small braids as you like and have them spread out around your bun mold.  We have 9 braids on ours.  Once you have spread the braids around the mold you will secure them with another elastic that goes over the braids and the mold to hold everything into place.
You should now have the remaining hair hanging outside your bun.  (Remember that this hair should not be braided.) Break that hair up into about three groups and plait three individual braids out of it.  Wrap those braids around the base of your bun and secure them into place with bobby pins.  This creates the bottom of your crown.  Pretty simple and cute!

Super-Sized Bun

I love experimenting with new supplies and tools so it's always fun to find a new little gadget.
I was out shopping the other day when I came across a super-sized bun mold at Claire's.
I bought this more specifically for myself but my princess wanted to wear it in her hair for church.
I loved how it looked in her hair and we had several compliments on how elegant she looked.
You definitely need hair past shoulder length for this bun mold because it requires lots of hair to cover it.  Start by simply pulling all of the hair back into a ponytail.  (The best results come from using wet hair.)  It can be a low, high or a side ponytail - it doesn't really matter.  Now slip the mold over the entire ponytail and the elastic.  Have your princess tip her head down and spread the hair evenly around the mold with a comb.
Secure it into place by slipping another elastic over the hair and the mold.  Take the excess hair and divide it into at least 3 sections and twist or braid them.  Wrap those sections around the base of the bun mold and bobby pin them into the mold to secure them.
You can either have your tiny little ends flare out or tuck them under to conceal them like we've done here.  Add a flower clip on the side if you like and it's finished.

Friday's Film: Inside Out Bun Revisited

So I was watching the video from last Friday of our Inside Out Bun.  You can find that original post here.  I realized that there is a much easier way to accomplish the same desired look.  Here's a video that will same you some time on your Inside Out Bun:
See, now wasn't that much easier?!
Here's a pictures of our new Inside Out Bun and you can see that it looks just like the first.
I will always take the easier edition if it looks just as good!  :)

Friday's Film: Inside Out Bun

Today's video is something a little new.  I decided to introduce myself to you and let my princess speak a little bit because sometimes the videos get a little redundant and it's nice to see the face behind the styles.  :)
This hairstyle is called "Inside Out Bun" and it's basically one bun inside another.  The center bun is created using a bun mold and the outer bun is creating using Barrel Rolls.
It's fairly simple but you do want to be sure that you're working with wet hair because that will make all the difference!'
Here's a picture of the finished product.
The Barrel Rolls around the outside can be made as small or as large as you like.
Make sure you have plenty of bobby pins handy to secure all your pieces.
You can see that the bun also resembles a flower a bit.
It was fun introducing ourselves to you and we hope that you continue to enjoy our posts and our videos.  :)

Braid Roll

It does not get much more simple than this!  It's called the Braid Roll and it's a great one to do on your own hair because it's so easy.
Begin with wet hair and pull it all back into a ponytail.  Your ponytail can be high, low, or centered.
Now simply braid the entire ponytail VERY loosely.  You do not want tight uniform plaits.  I would just stick with a Regular 3-Strand Braid because you don't want to much clutter going on with this bun.  Make sure to plait all the way down to the very bottom of the hair and then secure it with an elastic.
Now gently wrap the braid around that top elastic to begin and then around itself until all of the braid is up on the head.  You can add bobby pins as you go along to secure it into place.  It's not supposed to be a tight bun so remember to keep it loose.
Tuck your ends under the bun and secure it with a couple final bobby pins.  It's elegant and simple and what could be better than that?

Friday's Film: Flower Buns

My princess absolutely loves this new style and has requested to wear it again already.  These darling buns form the perfect flower.  You can always do just one bun instead of two as well.
See how easy that was!  It looks great with hair that's not as long also but you may want to divide your ponytail into more than just 4 sections so you get lots of "petals".
Here's a view of the zig-zag part we used.  Feel free to use any part you like.
You can see that our flower has several petals because of how long my princess's hair is.
I've gone ahead and tucked all my final ends up into the bun but you could leave them shooting out which is also cute.
The flowers are going to look different every time you do this hairstyle but they are always cute!
You can tell that this is her new favorite style!  :)

Friday's Film: Double Stack

*Just a note that we will be taking a vacation for a couple of weeks so we will not have any new posts during that time.  We will be posting after that though so keep checking in!*  :)

We've called this style the Double Stack and I actually saw something similar to this on one of the awards shows on television but I have searched everywhere and I can't find the original source.  It's a very easy style but you will need to have two bun molds or rolled socks to accomplish this style.
I told you it was easy!
Here's a picture of the finished product.
You can see that it is taller than a regular bun but has a really elegant look to it.
We used wet hair when creating this style and didn't have any problem with it holding tightly.
Remember to really take the time to make sure the hair is spread out evenly over those bun molds so that your finished bun looks really clean.
Happy Summer and we will see you after vacation!

Side Braid Bun

This is not a new hairstyle by any means but it is the first time we have ever done it.  You only need to know how to do a basic French Braid (We have a video for that here ) and all you need is one elastic, some bobby pins, and a flower clip.  This hairstyle actually looked a bit better when it was done with dry hair but we did use extra hairspray when doing it dry so that we didn't end up with a ton of fly-aways.
We started by creating an off-centered part at the front of the head that was about 2 inches long.  We started on the smaller side of the part and grabbed a section of hair that was divided into 3 equal sections.
This is where you will begin your French Braid.  Just make sure that your Braid goes across the back of the head rather than down the head.
Work your way around to the other side of the head and gather in the remaining hair.  Once it's all been added in, finish plaiting the braid with just a Regular 3-Strand and then secure it at the bottom with an elastic.
Wrap that 3-Strand Braid around itself and secure it against the head with bobby pins.  Make sure that you have all of your ends tucked under the bun so they won't show.  Add a flower clip to the front of the bun and it's finished.

Friday's Film: 4 Strand Headband With Flower

My princess came up with the idea for this hairstyle this morning and it's a fairly simple one.  Be sure to start with wet hair and have some small elastics, bobby pins, and hair accessories ready.
I apologize for my voice, I had just recently gotten over a cold.
For our finished product I went back and did one more 4 Strand Braid and another flower.

The 4 Strand Braids do not need to have the "squished" effect but I was just looking for something that wasn't so linear.
My flowers are different sizes but you can really shape them to be any size you like.
I left the rest of the hair straight down but you can finish it off any way you like.

Bun Spiral

My princess has her hair in buns all the time for swimming and dance but they always seem to be falling out when her activity is over.
I grabbed this handy little tool in the hopes that it might solve our problem.  It's called the "Bun Spiral" by Goody and I picked it up at Walgreens.
You start by pulling all the hair back into a ponytail as usual.
Now twist that ponytail and wind it around your elastic to create your bun.  Tuck your ends under as best you can at this point.  Now grab the Bun Spiral and slip it over the bun - so that the purple tips are next to the head.
Now simply spin it clockwise until it won't spin anymore and this locks it into place.  I have to admit that I was pretty impressed.  It holds that bun VERY tightly in place and her bun looked just as beautiful after school as before.  I give this one a thumbs up!

Dance Do

I've done several dance hair styles before but this one has a bit of a different twist on it so I thought I would post just in case any of you have little dancers out there and are stumped on hairstyle ideas.  Make sure you begin this style with wet hair for better hold.
I started by sectioning out the bang area on the front of head and creating a Dutch Braid.  (A Dutch Braid is basically a French Braid but you have your plates go underneath instead of over the top.)
I did not have the Dutch Braid go all the way down to the ear but rather just to the end of the bang line and then I just finished plating the hair I had gathered into a Regular 3-Strand Braid.
I secured that braid at the end with an elastic and then set it aside for a minute.
Pull the remaining hair tightly back into a ponytail.  You can make the ponytail high or low depending on the look you are going for.  We've place this one right over the crown of the head.
Now go ahead and create a Barrel Roll from the hair used in your ponytail.  You can find a video tutorial for the Barrel Roll here.
Once your Barrel Roll is completed you can bring your original braid down around the back of the bun and tuck the ends underneath.  Use bobby pins to secure it into place and then give it a good spray with hairspray to ensure hold throughout the dance performance.  At this point you can spray the hairstyle with craft spray glitter as well if you want that sparkly look.  We usually do this but did not have any glitter on hand at this time.  Add some fun hair accessories if you like as well.
This hairstyle holds very tightly and is perfect for keeping that hair out of the face while your princess is dancing!
